About the project
The districts of Varanasi and Bhadohi face a concerning issue of child marriage, which severely hampers the overall development of children, especially young girls. This widespread practice often disrupts their education, leading to high dropout rates. In addition, nearby secondary schools lack adequate infrastructure, forcing children to travel long distances to attend classes. As a result, many children discontinue their education and are pushed into child labor or early marriage.
Making a difference
CRY America Project SSRF is working to facilitate access to education by reducing dropout rates in schools, improving school infrastructure, and strengthening child protection mechanisms to reduce instances of child labor and child marriage. Key interventions of this project include ensuring quality education; enrolling and re-enrolling first-time learners and dropout children; working with protection committees to strengthen child protection systems; and promoting awareness of children’s rights through the formation of Children’s Collectives and Adolescents’ Collectives.
The way forward
● Ensure capacity building of 15 staff members to form a Disaster Risk Management Support Team
● Ensure quality education and infrastructural upgradation in 5 schools by following up with concerned stakeholders
● Implement the Year 3 module of Life Skills sessions with 18 Children’s Collective groups and in 8 government schools
● Implement learning modules in 18 Child Activity Centers, benefiting 523 children, to improve age-appropriate learning outcomes

● Track 3,719 children in schools to ensure their retention and reduce dropout rates
● Enroll 200 out-of-school children aged 6–18 years in schools
● Strengthen the roles and responsibilities of 9 School Management Committee (SMC) members to actively intervene in school-related issues
